Active-safety

Active Safety

A finely-tuned system coordinating engine management, suspension, brakes, tyres and an array of electronic safety systems ensures that your BMW stays on track even in critical driving situations.

The key to an effective active safety system is precise control. A perfectly tuned chassis, the best possible traction and effective brakes all help reduce the risk of an accident, together with electronic chassis control systems such as Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Electronic Damper Control (EDC).

The complex task of coordinating all these components is handled by a high-performance control system that is networked with your BMW's other electronic safety systems via a digital bus. Incoming data from various sensors, such as those of the Automatic Stability Control (ASC), the tyre pressure indicator and the Digital Motor Electronics, is continuously evaluated and shared with other systems.

Within milliseconds, the information is processed and the appropriate commands are directed to the control systems. The result is a comprehensive management and monitoring system that enables you to keep control in critical situations.
